Why Website Design Matters, By the Numbers

Your website is critically important. You need a website that looks good. And functions well. And is mobile friendly. Take a look at these facts. Is your current website really up to these challenges? Or is it time for something new?

On any website, 66% of people would rather read something beautifully designed than something plain.

We build websites that delight the eye while also providing great user experience.

39% of people will stop engaging with a website if images won’t load or take too long to load.

Pearl Lemon's web design team understands how to create outstanding visuals without slowing your site to a crawl.

38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content/layout is unattractive.

Our websites are designed to keep browsing visitors engaged.

51% of mobile users will click away if a website displays badly in their browser

We test our website designs to ensure they look good when viewed from any of the popular browsers

Google actively demotes websites that fail to offer an adequate mobile experience in the SERPs.

SEO is hard enough. Don't make it any harder by failing to accommodate the increasing number of people who access the Internet from mobile devices rather than a desktop computer.

Pearl Lemon Design Offers Full-Service Website Design and Development

Our Web Design Process

Want to get a better understanding of the way we work? Here’s a quick breakdown

The Initial Consult

We'll set up a meeting with you to discuss your website, but we'll also be hoping to talk about a lot more. To create a website that portrays your brand in the way it should, that functions seamlessly and offers your users the best possible experience we need to know all about your business, what it does and what you are looking for from a new website.

The Website Design Proposal

Pearl Lemon Design will submit a formal proposal that describes the website we envision building for you.

In that proposal, we'll outline each section of the site and describe the interactivity and functionality of the site in detail. This takes a little time but it's an essential step, as it creates a roadmap for both our designers and our technical team. You will be invited to take as much time as you need to review the proposal and decide if you like what you see. Our team will be available to answer any questions you have.

Getting Started on Your Beautiful New Website

After we have a plan for the web site, we will custom build several mock-ups for the site based on your input. The mock-ups are non-functioning graphical representations of what your site would look like.

In addition to design basics like colors, fonts, images, etc. we also keep search engine optimization, browser compatibility, download times, usability and other technical issues in mind. Once you receive them we'll ask you to choose your favorite mock-up and offer your feedback. We're willing to perform two rounds of revisions with mock-ups but often we manage to nail most of it the first time.

The Geeky Part

While the Pearl Lemon graphic design team is doing their thing at the same time our web developers will be planning and setting up the architecture of your site and building the database schema. You're welcome to be a part of this process, but you might find it terribly boring. Luckily for you, we love this stuff and are OK getting this part done by ourselves.

Time for Launch

When your new website site is designed and built, and you are satisfied with the finished product, we’ll test it thoroughly. We’ll perform any remaining site revisions then launch it to the world.

We can also teach you how to maintain your site, or we can maintain it for you. We will never just build it and forget about it, or you. at Pearl Lemon Design we think making sure you happy with the final web design product is the best thing we can do.

Why Choose Professional Web Design?

Considering making a new website with a DIY website builder? It all sounds great. Build your own professional looking website in ten minutes! They’re Google friendly! They’re social media ready and SEO optimized! Plans start at just 6.95 a month. But there are some great reasons why professional website design is by far the better option.

Here are just some of the downsides of using a DIY website builder

You Won’t Actually Own the Website

Your website or rather all of the design and any content you create will only belong to you for as long as you keep paying your subscription.

You Won't Get a Unique Design

Website builders use templates – usually divided into industries and ‘uses’. You can indeed customize them, changing some colors, some fonts, adding your logo and your own images but the bare essentials remain the same. That means that for a local business especially' choosing a template can easily mean that you’ll have the same one as several other competing businesses in the area.  How are you going to build a brand like that?

They Aren’t Actually Easy at All

Yes, in 15 minutes you probably will be able to set up a basic account and maybe choose a template. But that’s about it. After that, be prepared to put in some major time and effort. Each page does have to be built, the (SEO friendly) content written and then added, images sourced – you do know where to find them and how to resize them right? – and added in just the right places, fonts and colors chosen (from a limited set of options) and on and on. And that’s just for initial publication.

The Google Friendly Factor

DIY web builders also always make the claim that they are ‘Google Friendly’. But what does that really mean? Best practices as far as Google (and other search engines) are concerned changes all the time. What worked five years ago in terms of onsite SEO often no longer do anymore and even some techniques and ‘best practices’ recommended 12 months ago are frowned upon now. Web builders are notoriously slow to keep up with such things.

These are just a few of the reasons that DIY web builders do not provide a good solution for small businesses, we could offer more. Yes, the initial outlay for a custom website maybe a little more. But you will own the site, it will be unique, up to date and you will retain ownership of your own content, you will be able to add features as desired and as needed, without being charged a slew of extra monthly fees, which in the long run will save you money anyway.

Website Design FAQs

How much does a new website design cost?

There’s no one single answer to this question. Website design is quoted based on the needs of each individual project. Every website is unique and requires different components, skills, and processes. The Pearl Lemon Design team develops custom websites specifically for your business. We’ll ask a lot of questions, assess your needs, and give you a quote based on that assessment. One thing we can promise; it will be very competitive and very fair.

How long does it take to get a new website?

We work as quickly as possible, but the pace of any website design project is set by each client. How much input you can provide during the initial stages, your availability with feedback, how soon the content is ready – all this affects the speed of completion. The functionality needs may also play a role – more complex sites will take more time to develop. However, we don't waste time.

Do I have to be local to you to work with you?

No, especially as local to us is subjective. Our teams are spread across the globe, from London to New York to Barcelona, Mumbai, the Caribbean and more. One of the biggest strengths of Pearl Lemon as a brand, and it's certainly true of Pearl Lemon Design. We hire the best people, and we can work with anyone, wherever they are. If you are local to one of our offices and fancy a discussion over coffee we can do that too.

Will I be able to update my new website myself when you are done?

Yes, we try to make things as simple as possible. We will give you all the training you need to maintain your site after we are done, but will always answer any questions you have.

Where should my website be hosted?

Hosting is super important! When it comes to hosting, you get what you pay for. Our team will help you find the hosting company - and the hosting plan -  that is just right for you. Great professional web design is an asset your brand needs for sure, but you also need the right hosting to help ensure that your new website is displayed properly!

Do you have samples of your web design team's work I can see?

We do! There are examples on our portfolio page and if you'd like to see more, feel free to contact us and we'll share even more.

If I don't like the website you create will you change it?

Our focus on working with clients throughout the web design process should mean that these situations don't arise. You'll be consulted throughout the process, so the final result should be something you'll love because you'll have a big stake in creating it!

Who will create the content for my new website?

That is up to you. If you have in house copywriters then we will be happy to liaise with them. If you do not we have a staff of highly experienced and successful web copywriters we can tap to create the new content for you.

Can you just tweak our old website?

Possibly. We’d need to take a close look at it to find out. Contact us and we’d be happy to do that.
